Wow! Challenging, humbling, appalling, but absolutely the Truth. Oh God, raise up men and women who are willing to live for You, courageous and bold by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Ones who refuse to compromise under any circumstance and who are steadfast in speaking Truth, no matter what the cost. Start in the pulpits across the nation, Lord, and have mercy on Your people for our willingness to settle for less than the complete Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We seek Your forgiveness. In the Name of Jesus, our Lord, Savior and Master, Amen.
I think Paul Washer is right in the idea that we need to constantly strive to turn away from our sin. However, I disagree with him in many ways. The main problem I have with him, is he tells people who are Christian that they are going to hell becuase they watched a rated R movie or perhaps still cuss sometimes, etc. He makes it to where "evidence in works" for salvation is required, but there are many good people in the world (many better than myself) who do good, yet do not believe and are not saved. Their were many "horriable" Christians in the Bible, or that did horriable things, that were saved. These people were repentant for their sins, but that did not mean they sinned any less. In fact, I would say when people become Christian, they become much more aware of thier sins and probably think they are getting worse. I will say that salvation is accomplished by Faith alone, by Grace alone, by Scripture alone and not by our works. Paul Washer seems like a good guy who wants to help. I admire him and respect his efforts, I just think his message is off sometimes.
I understand where you are coming from in reference to the "R" rated movie thing, although he never says that anyone is going to hell based on watching R rated movies. He's saying "If the Holy Spirit lives within you AKA (CHRIST) how can you being a new creature still enjoy the Sin and Blasphemy found in those movies?" What he's saying is that God is HOLY. And most men have no idea just how Holy and Just he really is. They think that they can pray a little prayer, show and bare no fruit of conversion with the Holy Spirit, and that they will get to heaven by being "A good person".
Finish these statements for me.
16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the_____. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
Faith without works is________?
...And I will say to them, depart from me, I never knew you, you who practice___________?
This is how we know we know him, if we keep his____________?
And his commandments aren't __________?
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the _____ of my Father who is in heaven. God is light, in him is no darkness at all. If we say we know him by walk in the dark we are __________ and the truth is not in us.
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We ____ to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
No one who lives in Him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or ________ Him.
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on ________, because he has been born of God.
Now, I'm not preaching a works based salvation, but when you are truly born again, you are a "NEW CREATURE" and "ALL THINGS ARE NEW". (Ezekiel 36:25-28-Titus 3:5) The Holy Spirit dwells within you, and you start hating sin and loving God. Titus 3:5-6) You can sin, but as you mentioned you will be extremely sensitive to it. And you will repent. However, you will not continue to sin habitually. ( John 6:38-39.) If you can, then you must "Examine yourself" against scriptures.
I'm not saying that Paul Washer is kind about it, but we are talking about "Eternity" here. And someone needs to stand up and scream out to the Lost!
She is doing great. She is an RN now and we switch up going to different churches; my Lutheran church - Redeemer Nixa, and her parents AG church - James River. She is so great, loves Jesus, and loves helping people.
I don't have living room space anymore for Jiu Jitsu. So, I took up bicycling.
We should get together sometime, maybe double date or something.
